How to Unlock the Control Panel on Your GE Profile UltraFast Washer/Dryer Combo

We work on all kinds of washers and dryers, and, believe it or not, one of the most common things we hear from customers is “My washer won’t respond. The buttons don’t work. What’s going on?”

In many cases, especially with newer dual washer/dryer models like the GE Profile UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer, the issue isn’t mechanical, it’s simply that the control panel is locked.

What the Control Lock Feature Does

The control lock feature is built into many modern appliances as a safety measure. It prevents accidental button presses, especially when the machine is running or if you’ve got curious little hands in the house. But here’s the thing, it’s really easy to activate by accident. Most customers don’t even realize they’ve turned it on. And when that happens, it looks like your washer or dryer just isn’t working at all.

How to Unlock the GE UltraFast Control Panel

Luckily, unlocking it is simple. We created a short video that walks you through how to do it on the GE Profile UltraFast washer/dryer combo. You can watch the video right here:

This model uses the Extra Rinse button as the Control Lock pad. If your panel is frozen, showing the lock icon, or displaying “CTRL LOCK,” here’s what to do:

Press and hold the Extra Rinse button for 3 seconds. That’s it. This will toggle the lock off, and your machine should respond normally again.

You may not hear a beep or click, but you’ll see the lock icon disappear. Once that’s gone, you’ll have full control of your settings again.

What If Unlocking Doesn’t Work?

If the Extra Rinse button doesn’t do the trick, try unplugging the unit for about 60 seconds. That can reset the control system and clear temporary glitches. After you plug it back in, try holding the Extra Rinse button again.

If you’ve done all of that and the panel still won’t respond, the issue may go deeper. You could be dealing with a faulty control board, a stuck button, or even a moisture-related issue inside the panel — and that’s when it’s time to give us a call.
